Research on the use of video content creation in the classroom
I have been working with a software company here in Syracuse: Symphony Video, inc. They are the creators of Ensemble Video, a content management system (CMS) designed specifically for use in enterprise-scale management of video content for cataloging, uploading, sharing and publishing video to websites.
With access to their clients, I developed a Capstone paper to complete my BA in Communications (William Paterson University, Wayne, NJ). The time frame and scope was very limited, and the sample size was small. There are some theoretical concepts that I hope to explore in more depth as I go through graduate studies.
Below is the Abstract:
“With gathering momentum, educators in K-12 and higher education are integrating video content creation and online publication using a web based content management system (VCC/OP/CMS) into their classroom environment, though its effect on meeting learning goals, from a broad based longterm perspective, has not been determined. This paper analyzes the opinions of administrators, technical staff and educators whose schools have integrated VCC/OP/CMS into classroom study in both K-12 and higher education environments to determine its effect on students, teachers and learning institutions on an organizational level against attitudes prior to integration. This study and other research of related literature indicate that both students and educators are embracing VCC/OP/CMS with high quality participation, and strong No Impact/Increase effect on attendance and grades, and that it has met or exceeded expectations as a learning tool. With appropriate teacher training and customized instructional design, VCC/OP/CMS is a valuable component of classroom activity, and an effective method to develop students’ digital literacy.”
